LSS : All I Ask Of You

Driving to work today, I decided not to turn on the radio and just sang the first song that comes to my head. Yes, I sing while driving ... but only when I am alone in the car. I love it. I live a good thirty-minutes away from where I work and I have a mini-concert.

This morning, I had a Broadway concert. I grew up with cassette tapes and cds of broadway musical soundtracks in my house so I am quite familiar with the songs.  The last song in my repertoire was All I Ask Of You from The Phantom Of The Opera. It's already mid-morning and I have long been in my desk but I cannot get the song out of my head.

Could this be a sign that I should watch Phantom of the Opera when they come to the Philippines this year?

According to a recent article in The Philippine Star , "the world’s most successful and popular musical, and the longest-running show on Broadway will be staged in Manila for a strictly limited season from Aug. 25 to Oct. 14, at the CCP Main Theater."

"Andrew Lloyd Webber’s critically-acclaimed masterpiece celebrated its 25th anniversary on the West End Stage last year, and continues to play to full houses nightly in London, New York and around the world. The Phantom Of The Opera has been seen by over 130 million people worldwide, in more than 27 countries, has won over 50 major theater awards, and has grossed more than $5.6B."

"The Phantom Of The Opera tells the story of a disfigured musical genius known only as The Phantom who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. Mesmerized by the talents and beauty of a young soprano — Christine, the Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine’s love for Raoul, The Phantom’s obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness and passions collide."

I truly hope that I get to watch this musical when they get here. For now, I shall content myself of watching the 2004 film version again.

I leave you with the lyrics of the song that's been in my head all morning.

No more talk of darkness
Forget these wide-eyed fears
I'm here, nothing can harm you
My words will warm and calm you
Let me be your freedom
Let daylight dry your tears
I'm here, with you, beside you
To guard you and to guide you
Say you'll love me every waking moment
Turn my head with talk of summer time
Say you need me with you now and always
Promise me that all you say is true
That's all I ask of you
Let me be your shelter
Let me be your light
You're safe, no one will find you
Your fears are far behind you
All I want is freedom
A world with no more night
And you, always beside me
To hold me and to hide me[ Lyrics from:
Then say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Let me lead you from your solitude
Say you need me with you here, beside you
Anywhere you go, let me go too
Christine, that's all I ask of you
Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime
Say the word and I will follow you
Share each day with me, each night, each morning
Say you love me
You know I do
Love me, that's all I ask of you.
(They kiss. Raoul lifts Christine off her feet, into his arms and holds her)
Anywhere you go, let me go too
Love me, that's all I ask of you
